Overview of the Day

Today we continue our important work as a campus in the system wide commitment to equity in higher education. Our collective goal is to ensure community and opportunity at every step for every student. It can be difficult to focus on equity in challenging times. However, it's precisely moments like this - times of stress, lack of information, and time pressures- where a commitment to equity and inclusion are more important than ever as unintentional roadblocks both in and outside of the classroom undermine the success of many of our students.

Our focus on this Welcome Back Day will again be the fourth pillar of guided pathways - ensuring learning. As we adapt to meet the needs of our students during a time of finding our “new normal,” we will continue to adapt to teaching and learning strategies that support our campus community and thus success through learning, engagement, and inclusion. The day will begin with learning about how we can collectively ease the burden of textbook costs for students and examining our newly adopted interest areas through the eyes of our students. In the afternoon, there will be opportunities for interaction and learning with your colleagues, all under the umbrella of taking care of each other. It will be a day of conversation, exploration, and support as we continue to address these challenging times together.
